First House

The body, the self, the lens through which life is met.

The first house — Tanu Bhava — represents the body, physical appearance, personality, vitality, the head, and the way the native presents to the world. The sign on the first house cusp (the Lagna or Ascendant) and the planet ruling it (the Lagna lord) are the most important points in the entire chart. Everything else is interpreted in relation to them. This is the only house that is BOTH a kendra (angular, powerful) AND a trikona (trine, auspicious).
