Surya is the king of the planets — the source of light around which all others orbit. In Vedic astrology, the Sun signifies the soul (atma), the father, those in positions of authority, and the principle of self that wishes to express itself outwardly. A strong Sun gives confidence, vitality, integrity, and the capacity to lead with dharma. A weak or afflicted Sun can manifest as ego struggles, problems with authority figures, or a chronic doubt about one's place in the world. Sun is the natural ruler of the 5th house (creativity, children, intelligence) and the 10th house (career, public recognition).
